Leisure Class Records was founded in 2006
by Dallas Foster and Ben Segal.
Leisure Class Records was born in January 2006 out of the failure of a grand romantic gesture and the success of the first Vio/Mire and Liz Isenberg tour.
At that point, the Ben and Dallas were attending Hampshire College. They spent the next semester or so assembling an initial roster, rejecting possible label names, and figuring out what, exactly, they were trying to do. Over that time, they didn't release any records. Summer of 2006 saw the release of the Cassette Concret/Joshi split 'a tape gone leave no trace/Animal Faith' and Liz Isenberg's 'Seeport Seaport Seeport'. At this point, Dallas and Ben are trying to bring the label into maturity along with their own slow entry into the real world.
In general, Leisure Class is about trying to help artists we love gain exposure and a well-deserved audience. We're dedicated to producing and selling high-quality hand-packaged art objects-- stenciling, sewn sleeves, etc. This aesthetic and ethic extends to the people we work with on our art-design and ideally to the venues we frequent, which are primarily galleries, houses, and community-art spaces instead of 21+ bars and clubs.
