The Lorelei Discography

All Releases Out of Print Unless Noted

The Bitter Air 7"- recorded in 1990 and released in 1991, this 3 song single on Slumberland features a radically different 5-piece line up with Davis then playing mandolin, and Matt not yet in the band. Gina Yi was our vocalist and on guitar is Dave Cerf, now of Threnody Ensemble, who would briefly rejoin Lorelei in 1992, playing guitar along with Matt, who had replaced Dave when he left for College. The songs are "Sometimesmethinks", "Everythings Gone Rain", and "The Bitter Air"

"Mimesis"- recorded in 1991 and released in 1992 on the One Last Kiss comp. on Spinart Records. This is with first recording as a three piece. Davis is now on drums, and after few shows with Matt having replaced Dave, Gina and our earlier drummer Peter Biby have left the band. They were not comfortable with Matt's interest in noise and expiremental music, which were quite clear through his guitar playing.

"Honeysuckle"- recorded in 1992 and released on the Noise and the Melodies CD comp. from Pearl Records and Fanzine in Germany, featuring Dave Cerf back on guitar along with Matt. This song was orignally written by me (one of the only songs to ever be written by just one of us) during a month that we had disbanded because of Matt's brief attempt to move to the West Coast. In 1996, Matt succeeded in moving and breaking up the band.

"The Bitter Air" on the Unnecessary Niceness comp. from Rough Trade/Beechwood in the U.K. (it's the A-side of the 7")

"Red, Red Wiggy" - recorded in 1993 for the Brilliant Records (out of Richmond, VA) comp. entitled, "Something Pretty Beautiful".

"Probe"- recorded in 1991 and released in 1993(?) on the Burning the Midnight firefly #2 cass. comp. This is an outake from The Bitter Air era featuring the 5 piece line up.

"Asleep" 7"- recorded in 1993 and released in 1993 on Slumberland featuring "mostly i sleep" and "float my bed". The B-side of the single is not on the CD, and there are 200 on red vinyl. Total pressing limited to 1000. This release is possibly still available from Slumberland records.

"Asleep" CD EP- recorded in 1993 and released on Slumberland. 4 tracks, 3 of which are not on the 7" ("the sky is falling", "caterwaul", and "stale houses"). A limited promo of 200 exist, with completely different art work in cardboard sleeve. This release is possibly still available from Slumberland records.

"Mostly I Sleep" on the CMJ New Music Magazine Jan. '94. (Same version as on "asleep", but includes nice picture and review)

"Burro"- recorded in 1992 and released in 1993 on the "Calling at Duke St." compilation on A turntable Friend from Germany. LP is limited to a 1000 with free Tree Fort Angst 7". From the same session as "Honeysuckle"

"No One Is Driving The Car" recorded in 1993 and released in 1994 on a free CD which comes with Terra X magazine #3.

"A Thigh For A Leg" (edit)- recorded 1994-95 for the "everyone must..." full lenght and released on "Smash Hits for Teens D.C. punk\indie comilation by Level and Dischord Records called "Smash Hits For Teens" (I think?).

"Stop What You're Doing" and "Float My Bed"- recorded 1994-95 and 1992 respectively and released in 1994 on the "Why Pop Stars Can't Dance" Slumberland compilation. "Stop..." is another song from"everyone must touch..." and "Float My Bed" is the B-side of the "Asleep" 7". This release is possibly still available from Slumberland records.

"Resin"- recorded in 1992, released in 1994 on the Lo-Fi Records compilation tape. Same session as "honeysuckle".

"Everyone Must Touch The Stove" CD/LP- recorded in 1994/95 and released on Slumberland. Probably the best thing we ever released. The CD features 10 songs: "today's shrug", "quiet staid debt", "thigh for a leg", "throwaway", "inside the crimelab", "day", "newsprint", "windmill", "stop what you're doing", and "pillar". The LP has a different track order to accomidate the LP lenght, and does not contain "day" or "stop what you're doing". This release is possibly still available from Slumberland records.

"Ocillations"- recorded in 1995 and released in 1996 on Enraptured's "Electronic Evocations" Silver Apples tribute CD. This is Lorelei's only recorded cover.

"Monitor" EP-recorded in 1995 and 2000/2001 and to be released on Textile Sounds in 2003. This is an EP of songs we were in the midst of recording when we broke up. In 2000/01, we added some finishing touches and mixed them down for release as a final 12". The songs are "monitor", "deliberate speed reaction", and "where chemicals fall".
